ARTIST IN THE NEW MILLENNIUM
Roslyn Rose Creates Evocative Assemblages
by Renée Phillips
Roslyn Rose’s art encourages individual, unconscious
interpretations and evokes a compelling sense of wonderment.
Her assemblages are visual juxtapositions of memories
and dreams, fusing the old with the new.
We are invited to peer into her mixed media boxes in
her exhibition at Pen & Brush, 16 East 10th St.,
New York, NY, Jan. 23-Feb 3, Tues.-Sun. 2-6.
Her engaging sculpture assemblages employ wood, metal,
paper, cloth, ephemeral and permanent materials, and
are influenced by her travels, her interest in art
history, the history and mythology of women, and her
personal experiences.
The artist leaves some of the assemblages uncovered,
to allow the viewer greater access to her imagination.
In so doing, she invites us to become more engaged
in these theatrical treasures, to drift between reality
and fantasy, and decipher our own codes of personal
meaning from their contents.
Roslyn Rose has had numerous exhibitions world-wide
in museums and galleries. Her work is included in many
public and private collections including AT&T,
Newark Museum and Noyes Museum in New Jersey.
