| Although
I have used photographs as collage elements in the past, I
did not consider it a primary medium until I discovered the
possibilities of photo transfers. By making photo enlargements
of my slides on special Polaroid papers, I can create in a
new language. The photograph is soaked until the gelatin emulsion,
which holds the dyes, can be lifted off of the photographic
paper. The gelatin emulsion is then transferred to watercolor
paper and collaged with additional images. Color can be added
to the images during the enlarging process with the use of
filters or with acrylic paint after the emulsion has been adhered
and dried.
