Most
of my assemblages are inspired by history and myths, especially
those about women. The "Popova" series, for example,
honors a Russian woman artist who died at a very young age
before her potential could be fulfilled. However, after moving
to Hoboken, NJ, I became intrigued by the local lore about
the city's favorite son. This resulted in a series honoring
Frank Sinatra. As I use found boxes, the basic shape of my
sculptures are preset; but my designs are usually controlled
by a grid format. I cannot compartmentalize life, but I can
use compartments when I create art work.
The collage items incorporated into or onto these mixed media sculptures include
paper, wood, metal, beads, fabric, etc. which I have collected at flea markets,
friends attics, antique shops, and the streets of my city.
